PMHNP Preceptorship Program
Accepting Applications for Summer & Fall 2024
PMHNP Clinical
Preceptorship Program
The Integrated Psychiatric Services Clinical Preceptorship Program aims to provide a high-quality clinical experience for current Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) students. The clinical practicum is a critical component that fulfills the requirements for graduation and prepares students for professional success in the field of mental health care.
During the preceptorship, students will have the opportunity to work closely with the founder and lead psychiatric nurse practitioner of Integrated Psychiatric Services, Betty Yu, who will provide individualized guidance and mentorship. This close collaboration ensures that students develop the necessary clinical knowledge and assessment skills required to deliver excellent mental health care and achieve professional success.
Clinical practicums are integral to nursing education, as they allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world healthcare settings. By participating in the program, students will have the chance to put their learning into practice, gain hands-on experience, and develop new clinical skills. This experience will enhance their competence and confidence as future PMHNPs.
Overall, the Integrated Psychiatric Services Clinical Preceptorship Program provides a valuable opportunity for PMHNP students to gain practical experience, receive mentorship from an experienced practitioner, and develop the skills necessary to excel in their future careers in mental health care.
*It's important to note that the program is conducted entirely on-site, and telehealth is not an option. This ensures that students have direct, in-person exposure to the clinical environment and can engage in face-to-face interactions with patients and the healthcare team.
Gain Practical Experience
Through hands-on training and in the classroom, our students are continually learning to improve both their careers and the care they provide. In order to provide a robust learning experience, we limit the number of students each semester.
This program is highly competitive and is limited to 4 students per semester. Students are encouraged to apply early.
The Aspire Medical Group Preceptorship Program maintains a 2:1 student-preceptor ratio to offer the ultimate engagement and active learning experience for our students.
During the clinical practicum, students will be supervised by an ANCC Board-Certified PMHNP. Students will perform both in-person and telehealth encounters to build practical experience as they perform psychiatric comprehensive mental health evaluations, develop differential diagnosis based on the patient’s chief complaint, complete psychiatric interviews and progress notes, develop psychiatric mental health care plans, recommend pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, and follow-up with the patient to assess their response to treatment and monitor for side effects of the prescribed medications.
At Aspire Medical Group, we frequently utilize long-acting injectables in our clinical practice; therefore, students will be expected to achieve proficiency in the administration of long-acting injectables.
Student Placement
We treat patients with psychiatric and substance use disorders across the lifespan. Prospective students should keep in mind that we treat both children and adolescent patients. However, this population type is limited in numbers for new intakes, especially during their school breaks. We will do everything we can to meet your program's requirements, so it is essential that you convey them beforehand.
Students will be scheduled at least two (2) 8hr shifts per week for the normal 12-13 week semester. Any accelerated programs or requirements will be addressed on an individual basis with the preceptor.
Program Fees
Preceptors dedicate a lot of time to scheduling and rearranging their own schedules to provide the optimal learning experience for their students. They also coordinate with the university and the student, fill out paperwork, and make sure students meet all the requirements during their clinical rotations.
Per semester/quarter, we require a clinical preceptor honorarium from students requesting clinical hours.
Please note that we do not offer psychotherapy; therefore, this clinical rotation will not fulfill this requirement.
